Antique Flemish style furniture
1550 - 1890
Flemish furniture was popular in 17th century. The wood most used was
oak and the distinguishing feature was a profusion of elaborate carving.
The furniture was often heavy. The so-called Flemish scroll, an S or C
curved ornamental form in which a scroll is broken by an angle, was
prominent.
So was the Flemish foot: a scroll-like ending to an S or C curved leg.
